You said yes to leading something in your church. Perhaps a home group, a worship team, the youth, the welcome team or a Bible study. And somewhere since then, you may have wondered whether they chose the wrong person.
This course is for you. It is ten short lessons for leaders in their first years, taught from Scripture and from practical experience in the local church.
The course question
How does a willing, unready believer lead God’s people faithfully in the first years?
Who this course is for
- New leaders of a small group, worship team, youth ministry, welcome team, Bible study, outreach or church department
- Leaders who have been serving for a while but were never given the basics
- Pastors and ministry mentors training new leaders (a Leader’s Guide is available for group use)
The staircase and the open door
Throughout the course you will see a staircase climbing towards an open door. Each lesson is one step. You do not need to be at the top to begin; you only need to take the next step. The open door reminds us that growth begins with an invitation to serve and learn. We do not have to know everything before we begin, but we must remain willing to learn, prepare and serve faithfully.
The three parts
“You are not required to be ready. You are required to be willing, teachable, and honest about what you do not know.”
— Lead Before You’re Ready
Paul reminds us that our sufficiency comes from God:
“Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God…”2 CORINTHIANS 3:5 (ESV)
This course offers pastoral teaching and practical suggestions. Apply them within your church’s leadership, safeguarding procedures and local requirements. A willingness to serve does not replace preparation or supervision for your particular role.
